Material Breakdown: 20 lb. Bond Paper
All of our standard blueprints are printed on premium 20 lb. uncoated bond paper. This is the gold standard for the industry. It is lightweight enough to be easily rolled, folded, and transported across muddy job sites, yet durable enough to withstand daily handling. Crucially, the uncoated nature of bond paper means it has an excellent "tooth" for markup. Project managers and foremen can easily write on the plans with pencils, pens, highlighters, or markers without worrying about the ink smearing or bleeding through to the next page.
Black & White vs. Color Line Drawings
While traditional blueprints (which were literally blue) have been replaced by standard black and white line drawings, color printing is becoming increasingly vital. If your CAD files utilize color-coding to differentiate between existing structures and new additions, or to separate electrical lines (red) from plumbing lines (blue), we highly recommend selecting the Color Line Drawing option. This dramatically reduces confusion on the job site, ensuring subcontractors instantly recognize their specific zones and responsibilities.
How to Prepare Your CAD and Blueprint Files

Exporting from CAD Software
Whether you are designing in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or Vectorworks, the way you export your file dictates the final print quality. We strongly recommend exporting your drawings directly as a Flattened PDF. While we can occasionally accommodate native CAD formats (.dwg, .dxf) or high-resolution images (.jpg, .png), a PDF locks in your specific line weights, scale ratios, and font choices, preventing our prepress software from inadvertently altering your design during the ripping process.
Scaling and Exact Dimensions
The most common error in blueprint printing is incorrect scaling. You must ensure your document canvas size perfectly matches the physical paper size you select in our configurator.
- If you order Arch D (24" x 36"), your PDF export settings must be set to exactly 24 by 36 inches.
- If you order Arch E (36" x 48"), your canvas must be 36 by 48 inches.
- Do not rely on "Fit to Page" settings, as this will slightly shrink your drawing to accommodate printer margins, completely throwing off your 1/4" = 1'0" architectural scale. We print "Actual Size" based on the digital file provided.
Line Weights and Typography
Because blueprints consist entirely of thin lines, visibility is paramount. When drafting, ensure all critical structural lines have a sufficient line weight (thickness) assigned. Extremely faint or hairline strokes may drop out or print too lightly on the final physical copy. Furthermore, if your title blocks or annotations use specialized, custom architectural fonts, you must either embed the fonts during the PDF export process or convert all text to outlines/shapes. This prevents our system from replacing your custom font with a generic substitute.
Handling Multi-Page Document Sets
Construction plans rarely consist of a single page. If your project includes a title sheet, floor plans, electrical schematics, and elevation views, please combine all of these into a single, multi-page PDF document before uploading. Our system will read the number of pages in the PDF. Please adjust the "Quantity" selector on our product page to reflect the total number of printed pages you are purchasing (e.g., if you upload a 5-page PDF and want 2 complete sets, change the quantity to 10).

If you are operating out of state or require the plans to be delivered to a remote project site, we utilize our network of authorized carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL, USPS) for rapid delivery. To ensure your blueprints arrive in pristine condition without frustrating creases or dog-eared corners, we never fold architectural plans unless explicitly requested. Instead, they are carefully rolled, secured with bands, and shipped inside heavy-duty, crush-resistant corrugated tubes.
