Care and Maintenance Instructions
To maximize the lifespan of your custom banner, proper care is essential. When not in use, always roll the banner with the printed side facing outward; folding the banner will create permanent creases and severely damage the ink. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct, continuous sunlight when not actively displayed. If the banner becomes dirty, gently wipe it down with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemical solvents, as these will strip the UV coating and degrade the image quality permanently.
How to Prepare Your Print-Ready Banner Files
Because banners are large-scale prints that include physical finishing hardware (like folded hems and grommets), careful file preparation is critical to ensure a perfect, professional result.
Understanding Resolution and Sizing for Large Formats
Designing for a 6-foot banner is vastly different from designing a standard flyer. While 300 DPI (Dots Per Inch) is the gold standard for standard commercial printing, it can result in unnecessarily massive file sizes for large banners. For optimal printing, we recommend setting your artwork at 100% scale at 150 DPI. If your design software struggles with large canvas sizes (like a 72-inch document), you can set your file to 50% scale at 300 DPI or 25% scale at 600 DPI. Our RIP software will accurately and proportionately scale it up during production.
Color Modes: CMYK vs. RGB
Digital screens display colors using light in RGB (Red, Green, Blue), but our wide-format printers use physical ink in CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black). To prevent unexpected color shifts—especially with bright blues, vivid greens, and rich blacks—you must convert your document color mode to CMYK before starting your design. If precise brand color matching is required for corporate guidelines, please embed the specific Pantone (PMS) solid coated color profiles within your vector artwork before exporting.
Bleeds, Safe Zones, and The Grommet Rule
Hardware finishing requires physical space on the banner. We fold and hem the edges of the banner to reinforce it before punching the metal grommets. To accommodate this finishing process:
- Bleed Margin: Include a minimum 0.125-inch to 0.25-inch bleed if your background color or background image extends to the very edge of the banner.
- The "Safe Zone" (Crucial): Keep all critical text, logos, and primary imagery at least 1.5 inches to 2 inches away from all four edges. Grommets are typically placed in the corners and every 2 feet along the perimeter. Failure to respect the safe zone will likely result in a metal grommet being punched directly through a crucial letter or logo element.
Typography, Fonts, and Vector Elements
To ensure crisp lines at large scales, always use vector graphics (.ai, .eps, .svg) for logos and illustrations whenever possible. Unlike raster images (JPEGs or PNGs), vectors do not pixelate or blur when enlarged to massive sizes. Before exporting your final file, you must outline all text (often called "Convert to Curves" or "Create Outlines"). This locks the text as shapes and prevents font substitution errors if our pre-press department does not have your specific font installed on our systems.

- Pre-Press Review: We verify resolution, safe zones, and color profiles. If issues are found, production pauses until we reach out and you approve a revised proof.
- Printing & Curing: Your banner is printed on our state-of-the-art wide-format machines. Our specialized eco-solvent inks require a brief outgassing and curing period to ensure they are fully set, vibrant, and scratch-resistant.
- Finishing: The banner is moved to our finishing tables where the edges are heat-welded or hem-taped for structural integrity, and brass/nickel grommets are manually punched along the perimeter.

Receiving and Inspecting Your Banner
Upon receiving your package, please unroll and inspect your banner immediately. While our packaging is heavily reinforced to withstand transit abuse, carrier mishandling can occasionally occur. If you notice any damage to the shipping tube that has affected the printed banner inside, please take clear photographs of both the damaged packaging and the damaged banner. Forward these images to our support team within 48 hours so we can immediately initiate a carrier claim and arrange a rapid reprint for you.
