Premium Paper Stock Choices
We do not print newsletters on flimsy copier paper. Your updates should feel as important as the information they contain. We offer two premium paper stocks:
- 100 lb. Gloss Text: Our most popular option. This thick, premium paper features a highly reflective coating that makes full-color photographs of company events or church gatherings incredibly vibrant.
- 80 lb. Matte Text: A classic, non-reflective option that is excellent for text-heavy documents, ensuring maximum readability without any distracting glare under harsh office lighting.
Mastering Your Newsletter Layout and File Setup
To ensure your custom newsletters print flawlessly and fold exactly where you intend them to, strict attention must be paid to your digital file setup. Follow these critical guidelines before uploading your artwork.
File Format and Resolution
We highly recommend designing your newsletter in professional layout software like Adobe InDesign or Canva, and exporting the final file as a Flattened PDF. This locks in your typography and prevents unexpected layout shifts. Ensure all embedded photographs (especially team photos or event shots) are saved at 300 DPI to prevent blurry, pixelated printing.
Accounting for Bleeds
If your newsletter features a background color, a colored header bar, or images that you want to extend to the absolute physical edge of the paper, you must include a "bleed."
- Add a 0.125-inch bleed margin to all four sides of your document canvas.
- For example, if you are ordering an 8.5" x 11" newsletter, your digital canvas should be set to exactly 8.75" x 11.25".
- Extend your background colors into this extra margin space; we will trim it off after printing to achieve a seamless, edge-to-edge look.
Designing for Folds (The Most Common Mistake)
If you are utilizing our automated folding services, you must design your layout to accommodate the physical creases in the paper.
- Half-Folds (11" x 17"): If you are designing an 11x17 flat sheet to be half-folded into a 4-page 8.5x11 booklet, treat the fold line exactly like the edge of the paper. Keep all important text and logos at least 0.25 inches away from the center fold line. Text that crosses the crease will be difficult to read and looks unprofessional.
- Tri-Folds (8.5" x 11"): Tri-folds do not divide the paper into three mathematically equal panels. Because the inside panel must fold *into* the flyer, it must be designed slightly narrower than the outer panels so the paper doesn't buckle. We highly recommend using a pre-measured tri-fold design template to ensure your panel margins are perfectly aligned with our folding machines.
Pagination for Half-Fold Booklets
If you are designing an 11" x 17" half-fold newsletter, remember "Printer's Spreads." The front page (Page 1) and the back page (Page 4) are printed on the same side of the flat 11x17 sheet of paper. Page 2 and Page 3 are printed on the reverse side. If you upload an 11x17 PDF, Page 1 of your PDF should show the Back Cover on the left half, and the Front Cover on the right half.

The Production Schedule
Standard flat newsletters are printed incredibly fast. However, if you select a folding option (Half-Fold or Tri-Fold), the printed sheets must be allowed to completely dry before they are sent through our automated folding machines, otherwise the wet ink will crack along the creases. Our standard production timeline for folded newsletters is 1 to 3 business days following the approval of your print-ready artwork.
