How to Prepare Your Retractable Banner Files
Retractable banners require highly specific file formatting. Because the graphic is physically attached to moving hardware (the top clamp rail and the internal spring-loaded roller), you must account for hardware overlaps in your digital design file to avoid vital information being cut off or hidden.
The Critical "Hidden" Zones (Bottom Bleed)
This is the most common mistake made when designing retractable banners. A portion of the printed canvas must remain securely attached to the roller inside the aluminum base to maintain the tension spring. If the graphic is pulled completely out of the base, the spring mechanism will break.
- Bottom Hidden Area: The bottom 3 to 4 inches of your digital design will remain permanently inside the silver aluminum base. Do not place any text, logos, websites, or phone numbers in the bottom 4 inches of your document. However, you must extend your background color, gradient, or background image all the way down through this area so that if the banner is pulled slightly higher than normal, no white canvas is exposed at the bottom.
- Top Clamp Margin: The very top edge of the banner is clamped into a silver rail. Keep all critical text and logos at least 1 inch away from the top edge of your canvas.
Exact Document Dimensions
Your digital canvas must be set to the exact total size of the banner, including the bleed areas mentioned above. Please set your design software (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva) to the following dimensions:
- Width: Exactly 32 inches.
- Total Height: Exactly 83 inches (This accounts for the 79 inches of visible viewing area plus the 4 inches of required bottom bleed).
Resolution and Color Formatting
Because trade show attendees will be standing mere inches from your banner, high resolution is non-negotiable.
- Resolution (DPI): Design your file at 150 to 300 DPI at the full 32" x 83" scale.
- Vector Graphics: Use vector formats (.eps, .ai, .svg) for all logos and typography to guarantee perfectly sharp edges.
- Color Space: Convert your document color mode to CMYK before designing to ensure the printed colors accurately match your screen.
- Exporting: Save your final file as a flattened, high-quality PDF. Ensure all fonts have been converted to outlines/curves.

Production and Assembly Timeline
Creating a retractable banner is a multi-step process that involves precision printing, ink curing, and meticulous manual hardware assembly. Standard production time is 1-3 business days following the approval of your print-ready artwork.
Once printed, our production team carefully aligns the graphic into the top clamp rail and securely adheres the bottom of the canvas to the tension roller mechanism inside the base. We fully test the retraction spring several times to ensure smooth operation before placing it in its padded travel case.

If you have an event in the DFW metroplex, you can bypass shipping costs and transit times by selecting the Local Pickup option. Once your banner is fully assembled, tested, and packed in its carrying case, you will receive an alert. The assembled banner is placed inside its padded nylon carrying case, which is then sealed inside a tight-fitting, heavy-duty rectangular corrugated shipping box. We ship via authorized national carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL) to provide reliable tracking.
